Therefore, atonement is a comprehensive term that includes everything Christ has done, is doing, and will do, to remedy the separation of man from God caused by sin. Within this broad salvific context, Christ as “sacrifice” and “priest” must be held together as two important aspects of atonement. Along the “atonement continuum,” the cross is the completed payment but not the finished atonement.
